USAREUR Practice Exam 2026 – Comprehensive Test Prep

To turn left properly from the right lane, the driver should first signal their intent to turn. This communication helps inform other road users of the driver’s actions and intentions, promoting safety and predictability on the road. After signaling, the driver needs to watch for oncoming traffic and pedestrians. This step is crucial to ensure that there are no obstacles or vehicles in the way that could cause an accident.

Once the driver has assessed the traffic situation and determined it is safe, they should then move toward the center line. Properly positioning the vehicle allows it to prepare for a left turn while ensuring the driver has a clear line of sight and the necessary space to complete the maneuver safely.

This method of turning emphasizes caution and situational awareness, essential components of defensive driving. Not prioritizing these steps could lead to hazardous driving conditions or collisions, which is why the other options are not appropriate for executing a safe left turn.
